Stayin' Alive
Disco was one of the most popular music genres of the 1970's and is still thought of today as one of the classic parts about the 70's. The interest in disco began when the 1977 movie, Saturday Night Fever, was released. This movie heightened the publics interest in disco. Many prominent artists began recording disco crossover hits like Kiki Dee's "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" where the song was a mixture of disco and other music genres. Disco appealed to all different ethnic cultures and originally became popular in the non-white dance clubs. The emergence of disco into mainstream culture brought on an increase of the use of drugs and sexual activity. Theses things were thought to enhance the disco sound and enjoyment and slowly formed their own sort of sub-culture. Toward the later 70's, anti-disco ideals slowly began to take over the American populous. These ideals were promoted by rock artists and even entertainment. On July 12, 1979, Disco Demolition Night became the day disco officially "died" when thousands of disco records were exploded during the intermissions of a White Sox vs. Tiger's baseball game. In recent times, disco has made a slight comeback in such songs like Bruno Mar's "Treasure". The song Stayin' Alive was from the album of Saturday Night Fever and became one of the quintessential songs from the disco era
