The Godfather
The Godfather, released in 1972, is considered to be one of film's most important and successful movies and even spawned two sequels. Many movie quotes from the movie are forever embedded in the history of movie quotes such as "Make him an offer he can't refuse." The movie's plot follows the catastrophic events occurring during the transfer of heads of a famous crime family. Despite its huge popularity, there were many issues in making the movie. Coincidentally, just like in the movie, there were constant power struggles between the director and other key decision makers. The crew was dysfunctional just like the family in the movie. Its' cinematography is well-known for the classic dark alleyways and bright exterior shots. The Godfather brought popularity back to the American film industry instead of filming abroad. This gangster film also helped to bring up the level of gangster films to where the main characters were not villains, but tragic heroes.
